Topic: VPS Hosting
Hey,
was wondering if someone could give me some info on VPS hosting, in particular which is the best vps hosting to go for, in terms of good service, cheapness and reliability? Should I go for windows vps or linux vps?
Re: VPS Hosting
Hey,
I would recomend to start from Linux as it's much cheaper and easier to manage for a new VPS user. Linux also performs well for most applications and is well known for its reliability and does include a very robust packet filtering firewall system and many intrusion detection tools. However, the platform choice depends on the application you are going to host. If you choose Windows you will have capability to run all possible applications, but on Linux platform you can only host applications which support linux webhosting, not windows.
As for recommendation, check out www.nublue.co.uk , www.sonassi.com or www.simpleservers.co.uk. NuBlue are slightly more expensive but in my experience offer a better service.
Hope that helps ***

Re: VPS Hosting
Hi guys,
I also prefer Linux as the type of applications you can run are more readily available and often free (open source). You should also consider the following factors when choosing VPS provider:
Operating System
CPU, disk space and bandwidth guarantee;
Supported application;
Supported program, database and protocol;
Monthly transfer limit;
uptime guarantee;
Security;
Host server configuration;
Location of the host;
Price (server, setup, domain, etc);
It is important to note that the spec of the host is not the only factor! If you have just start using vps it is important to consider what you really need and choose the best suit to fit.
If you would like to chat anymore about this please don't hesitate to get in contact.
Kind Regards, Marcie
